Wonderful Me

8th Oct 2025

The children have made great progress in settling in to Nursery and are becoming familiar with nursery routines and expectations of play. For example,  putting on an apron, sharing and turn taking. The children have also been developing their self-care and independence through snack time by pouring their own milk/water and choosing what they would like to eat.

Our topic for September is 'Wonderful Me'.

🏠In the home corner we have had lots of fun role playing familiar scenarios by dressing up and making lots of delicious ‘food’ - eggs on toast, bacon and some cake. We also decorated the home corner for a birthday party. We added birthday banners, party hats and birthday accessories.
🧱 At the Construction Area we have been very busy building models of a house and talking about its features using lots of naming and descriptive vocabulary- ‘big, small, tall, door, windows’.
🧽In the Water Area we added bubbles to the water and used a variety of jugs, whisks and utensils to explore its sensory nature whilst developing our hand-eye co-ordination. We then extended our learning in the Water Area through role-play by washing dolls and exploring personal hygiene as children used soap and sponges to wash the baby dolls.
👤At the play dough table we used a range of materials such as buttons, pipe cleaners and bottle tops to make faces.
🎂 We then we developed our imagination in the sand and used cupcake moulds to make a birthday cake.
🖼️In the Creative Area we painted a self-portrait. We had to look in the mirror and talk about the colour of our hair and eyes and paint ourselves with these features. We also made our faces using paper plates and used collage materials and wool to decorate.
👦🏼 In the sensory tray, we used different types of pasta to build a face. We developed our fine motor skills by using a variety of tongs to ‘lift’ the pasta.
📕 Our story of the month was ‘The Colour Monster’. We have been learning about our emotions and feelings. In the tuff tray the children developed their fine motor skills and co-ordination through sorting the pom poms into the correct colour. Each colour represented a different feeling - happy, sad, angry, calm, confused and love.
🧩 At our Table Top Area, we developed our fine motor skills, coordination and visual discrimination skills by manipulating a range of materials and resources and making people using popoids. We have also completed a range of jigsaw puzzles too.
🏃 Each week in nursery we also adventure down to the hall for physical activities and movement and go outside to explore our climbing apparatus.  We have lots of fun on the climbing equipment and are working very hard to develop our balance skills and co-ordination.
