Seaside Adventures and Summer Fun
In June our learning was inspired by The Rainbow Fish and our seaside theme. Through a range of engaging play-based activities, the children developed their creativity, communication, problem-solving and fine motor skills.
In our sensory and water play areas, the children explored seaside scenes using shells, pebbles, driftwood and a variety of sea creatures. They enjoyed sharing their knowledge of marine life, creating imaginative stories and discussing features of the seaside.
The children worked collaboratively in the sand area to build impressive sandcastles, while in the construction area they designed and created lighthouses using Lego. These activities encouraged teamwork, creativity and the use of mathematical language as they compared the height and size of their structures.
Our holiday-themed role-play area was a popular choice throughout the week. The children packed suitcases, dressed for summer holidays and explored different forms of transport, including aeroplanes and trains. This sparked rich conversations about travel, holidays and personal experiences.
At the investigation area, the children examined seaside treasures using magnifying glasses and explored non-fiction books to learn more about sea creatures and coastal environments. Table-top activities provided opportunities to develop fine motor skills through threading and problem-solving challenges.
During Circle Time, the children shared their favourite beach experiences and discussed the importance of staying safe in sunny weather by wearing hats, applying sun cream and drinking plenty of water.
We also enjoyed a special visit from our P7 Buddies, who spent time playing and learning alongside the children, helping to create a positive and supportive learning experience for everyone.
