People Who Help Us

17th Jun 2026

In February our nursery children have been thoroughly enjoyed our topic, People Who Help Us. Through a range of engaging play-based activities, the children have been learning about the important roles of people who help us in our community.

We explored the importance of good hygiene through hands-on germ experiments using pepper and soap, helping children understand why washing our hands with warm water and soap is so important. We also learned about dental health, healthy eating, and ways to keep our bodies healthy.

The children enjoyed investigating fingerprints like police detectives, building hospitals and emergency service villages, rescuing people in the water as lifeguards and coastguards, and creating police-themed artwork. Throughout these activities, they developed their language, imagination, problem-solving skills, and fine motor skills.

We were delighted to welcome several special visitors to nursery, including the Police Service, Fire Service, Doctor Johnston, and Andrea the Dentist. Our visitors shared valuable information about their jobs and the ways they help people every day. The children particularly enjoyed learning about looking after their teeth and received a toothbrush pack to continue their learning at home.

It has been a fantastic topic so far, with lots of opportunities for children to learn through play while gaining a greater understanding of the people who help keep us safe, healthy, and cared for.
