P6/7 learning about Healthy Choices๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“

26th May 2023

Primary 6/7 have continued to explore Fit for the Future; Healthy Choices in PDMU.

We were learning about a healthy lifestyle with a focus on a balanced diet. We had 4 learning stations which focused on developing our measuring, investigative and exploration skills.

Our 4 stations were…

*Making a healthy snack - we made fruit kebab with crushed rich tea biscuits and yogurt. We had to chop up the fruit, use a wooden spoon to crush the biscuits and be careful to put them onto the skewer. We were aware of all food hygiene and safety rules. Our snack was very yummy๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ˜

*Looking at nutrition labels - exploring the labels to find out about saturated and unsaturated fat. We took a guess about which cereal we thought would be healthier and then had to estimate a portion size. We were shocked when we used the scales to find out what a portion actually was!

*Investigating sugar in food - there were 8 foods on the table and we had to first guess how much sugar was in the foods. We put them in order from the lowest to the highest. Then, we opened the envelope containing the cards with the actual amounts of sugar in the foods. We then counted out sugar cubes to visually show us the amount of sugar. We couldn’t believe the amount of sugar in some of our favourite foods.

*Planning a balanced lunch box - we thought about our lunch box and how we could add foods that would make it balanced. We had lots of ideas and we are going to try hard to include them in our lunch box๐ŸŒฏ๐Ÿฅ—
