Minibeasts and Life Cycles
In May our nursery children have been captivated by our topic of Minibeasts and Life Cycles. Through a variety of engaging, play-based experiences, the children explored different minibeasts, their habitats and how living things grow and change.
Our learning was inspired by stories such as Superworm, The Perfect Ribbit and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Through these texts, the children developed their language, sequencing and early mathematical skills while learning about the life cycles of frogs, bees and butterflies.
Across the classroom, the children investigated minibeasts through sensory play, water and sand exploration, construction activities, creative arts and playdough. They developed fine motor skills using a range of tools and equipment, while also building their understanding of the natural world through observation, discussion and imaginative play.
The children enjoyed a variety of creative and cookery activities, including making ladybirds, bees, frogs and symmetrical butterfly artwork, as well as preparing and tasting a range of minibeast-themed snacks.
We also made the most of the warmer weather by learning outdoors, taking part in Sports Day activities and enjoying a Teddy Bears’ Picnic. It has been a wonderful topic that has encouraged curiosity, creativity and a growing appreciation of the world around us.
