Eco

Welcome to the Eco Committee page!

The members of the Eco Committee meet regularly to discuss issues that are affecting our environment. The ten topics for Eco-Schools in Northern Ireland are: Litter; Waste; Healthy Living; School grounds; Water; Transport; Biodiversity; Energy; Global Perspective and Climate Change. The Eco Committee have decided to focus on the topics of Healthy Living, Litter and Waste for this academic year.

Healthy Living

We encourage pupils to eat a healthy break (toast, fruit and milk). We also participate in the Take 5 Programme which has many benefits for our pupils' holistic development. We are very active as we take part in the Daily Mile.

Litter

The litter topic aims to raise awareness of the impact of litter on our environment. We continue to reduce litter in our local area by conducting litter picks in the school grounds and the surrounding area of Harryville.

Waste

Each class continues to use their brown bin for food waste so all the waste is recycled. Pupils take responsibility for emptying the food bins. Throughout the school, all classes aim to reduce waste by recycling in a variety of ways. We have scrap paper boxes, we photocopy on both sides of the page, ink cartridges are recycled and we aim to reduce laminating. We also encourage pupils to bring a reusable water bottle to school to reduce our plastic waste.
